South Africa #Freedom day
SOUTH AFRICA
THE HEART OF AFRICA
A land that warms the continent of Africa, built strong through the struggles of Apartheid. A painful history that is forgiven but will never cease to be forgotten. A day that will forever be remembered, 27th of April 1994 freedom day. a day South Africans were freed from oppression and slavery, torture and hierarchy. today we have freedom of speech, we have rights, we have acts and laws that regulate discipline, we have freedom in education and we have political freedom enshrined in the constitution. All this would not be possible if our activists did not fight tooth and nail, with blood being shed, our country was freed. Freedom day is celebrating lives of our legends, to show that their legacy lives on and their principles of a free South African will live on ."If one is free at heart, no man-made chains can bind one to servitude"
Advantages of discussing such prominent topic on social media from a public relations perspective
Social media is a mixture of broad and wide community that gives everyone the platform to voice out their opinions. A domination of South Africans will engage with excitement for they have seen the drastic change. It will serve as reminder of the tribes and tribulations we went through as a country before democracy. this blog aims to remind Africans that we have come a long way to let our country be a failure. people will get to share their stories of how they grew up and how they celebrate freedom day. the new generation, youth, will get to read about apartheid stories from different perspectives besides the ones they had heard from their parents. i will give platform for people to show-off their scars and boldness. more like a flash back of what was South Africa and how it is now. how it changed for the better for most people.
Disadvantages of discussing this topic on social media from a public relations perspective
As much as it is an interesting and mind blowing topic to touch on, it will bring back sad painful memories for those who lost their loved ones during the struggle
of freedom. it may be criticized for touching on a sensitive topic of which some people have not yet moved on from the past of oppression. most of the youth drives social media, it can create hatred for they will resent the whites due to their deeds during the apartheid era. it may cause mixed emotions for those who are undecided about the context of my blog post. there will be conflict due to disagreements that late Nelson Mandela betrayed South Africans by joining hands with the past masters and some will be in favor of Nelson for he has spent almost 27 years in prison for the long walk to freedom. Although that is not my intention. my interest is seeing how people perceive this topic and analyze the attitude of the public opinion.
Recommendations of using social media effectively
-Public relations practitioners should always analyze and research how the public may perceive this topic and how will your topic may change their attitude towards the issue.
- Do not try to enforce your point of view but use social media as an easy way of getting feedback from your target audience.

ReplyDeleteMr Mandela was a hero because he risk his life by spending 27 years in prison for fighting for our country.let us extend the word of gratitude to him.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that Freedom is just a personal state of mind. As long as you keep on thinking that you are not free ,it will forever stay like that
ReplyDeleteA change in the mindset can make everyone realize that the freedom the late Nelson Mandela was spreading exists.
